Hi there. I recently upgraded to Gig speed internet with Xfinity. Had the tech come and check things out as I was only getting 150-250mpbs download from Speetest.net.

When he plugged his machine in to test settings he was getting 956mbps download.

When I try other websites like speedtest.googlefiber I get around 600mbps download which is still on the low side for what I am paying for. I am hoping to get around 800-900 download as an average.

I am plugged directly from the modem provided by the ISP to my newly built gaming desktop.

Can anyone please help me with this? I will post any specs or stats required.

If you can find other people with the same service see what they get.

A lot of these new 1Gbs services to compete with google fiber are like this.
They just uncap you, but that doesn't help much when you are sharing a line with hundreds of people.
If they built...

They should tell you if your equipment can handle the higher speed. 3.1 modems are the best for the new speed offered. They always stand by me while I do speed tests on my PC before leaving. I've been told by Cox employees that NO ONE is going to be getting a solid 1GB download speed just yet. In my case, their equipment is suffering absolute chaos right now due to tons of roadwork in Las Vegas.

To be completely honest, I have no idea what that is. Although when I go to my network settings I see my ethernet connection is rated for 1gbps.

Yeah, I don't expect 1,000mbps download. Something around 700-900 would be reasonable though. I'm getting 250 MAX

He did not check on speedtest. Apparently it's not their job to figure that kind of stuff out. He tested the direct connection to the modem and it checked out, so his part in everything is done.

When I check the xfinity speedtest site, I generally get anywhere from 300-500. Still not even 50% of what I am paying for.

If they built the network out for 100Mbs per X amount of people. They can't magically make it 1000 without laying more line.
