Can a 1080ti and 1070 run at the same time?

I have a new PC with an i7-8700K processor and motherboard with 2 PCIe slots. I do NOT want to run in SLI. I would like to have the 1080 ti run a 43" 4K monitor and the 1070 run four 24" 1080p monitors for work. When I try to test it (I haven't purchased the 43" monitor yet, as I want to be sure it will work) the PC takes WAY too long to boot and I get an error in Device Manager on 1070. 1070 was in my older PC and worked great running the 4 monitors. I get hard drive errors and other issues when 1070 is added. I have a Corsair 860w Platinum + PSU, so power shouldn't be the issue and they run off the same driver. Anyone tried this before or have any ideas?

Below are two Type A USB to HDMI adapters; the 2 HDMI port adapter is the more versatile option. However, if you have a Type C USB, then you have many more economical options.

I have additional info. Nvidea support said that this SHOULD work as long as the 2 cards use the same driver (they do). So my question changes from "can a...?" to a "How do I get a 1080 ti and 1070 to run at the same time...?" I guess I need help from someone who has done this and had problems also. I've done this in the past with older cards. Just can't seem to get the 1070 and 1080 ti to play nice. Thanks for your input.

maxpowermarketing I've done this with two 980 Ti's and one 950; three cards total. In my case, I simply plugged the 950 in, and it worked, although it took longer for my PC to boot after I did that. Were I to do this again, I would wipe the Nvidia and AMD drivers, and then do a custom install (without GeForce Experience).

Question: Doesn't your GPU have five ports on it? 3 DisplayPort / 1 HDMI / 1 DVI. If you only have four ports, and you're short one port, I'd recommend that you get a USB to VGA/DVI/HDMI or DisplayPort adapter; StarTech makes many models of these and they work well. I think that a single GPU and one USB 3 to video adapter, is a cleaner solution. Then you could simply sell the 1070 now and put the money aside for the future GTX 1170 / 1180 GPUs. That is what I would do.

There are 5 ports, but the card has a limit of 4 monitors as per Nvidea support. I will try it again without Gforce Experience. I've tried it a number of ways already. The 1070 works fine by itself, as does the 1080ti. It may be a motherboard issue?

That was my past experience also. Been building my own PCs for 20 years. 1st time I ran into an issue like this. Maybe a motherboard issue?

maxpowermarketing Hmm.. I wasn't aware of the 4 display limit. If you've confirmed that limitation then consider my earlier suggestion of the adapter. It seems like a waste of power to run two GPUs, for one extra display. If the adapter doesn't workout then simply return it under Amazon or NewEgg's no hassle return policies.

The GTX1080 Ti has 5 outputs, BUT The DVI and HDMI are linked so you can not use the 5th. I will look into the adaptor. I'm not going to sell the 1070. I would like to make use of it if I can get it to work. I want to use it in my main work PC. If I can't get it to work I will put it in my wife's PC. She doesn't game or do much graphics work, but an upgrade won't hurt.
