1080Ti is it worth the upgrade with my current components

Hello,

I am in the process of upgrading my GPU and I was looking at the 1080Ti.
The thing is that some of my other components are a little old as well, and if I have to upgrade several things I probably can't afford the 1080Ti just yet.
So just after some advice if any of my other components will bottle neck the performance.
Motherboard : Asus X-79 Deluxe
Ram : 24GB 1600MHz
CPU : i7-4930K @4.2 GHz
PSU : Corsair HX1000i

I currently use a Samsung Evo 840 SSD but will be looking to get a newer slightly larger one (mine is about 5 years old and a little iffy.

Running Crossfire R290s at the moment - so I would hope to see a fairly large performance boost to outlay the cost of the 1080Ti.

Any advice would be appreciated - would hate to spend the money and not notice a lot of improvement.

At the moment I usually game in 2K because the R290s can't really handle 4K at a playable FPS.

Thanks in advance!

1080Ti will smoke your 290X CF and be much less prone to issues. If you're gaming you are pretty much set if you get a 1080Ti; only thing I would say is that you may want to wait until the 1100 series release to see if you can either save yourself some money or see if one of the 1100 cards is the same or better performance for cheaper. I used one of my 1080Tis in my 4770K rig for a while and it matched pretty well against my Haswell-E. SLI was a different story. Depending on the mods it is not guaranteed performance will be better though; I mean Skyrim can be a pain that way with some mod combinations/ENBs. FC5 and KCD you will get a nice boost though; same for something like AC: Origins. When I had 390X CF; my GTX 1070 would beat it...
I don't have a direct answer for your question yet, but let me ask you:

What games are you currently playing?

Samsung 840 EVO: Do you have Samsung Magician installed? When you said it was wonky, it suggested that you did not. If not, then you should download it immediately and let it update your firmware. It should fix your wonky, and noticeably improve your performance.

I switch up the games a bit, currently playing a few that don't need an upgrade (Path of Exile), but I have been waiting on an upgrade because games like Farcry 5 or Kingdom Come Deliverance run quite poorly unless I lower the settings.

I also run a heavily modded Skyrim - that slows down a lot as I add more mods to it.

Thanks for the advice on Samsung Magician - I used to have it installed but when I switched to Windows 10 a few years back didn't install it!

Your CPU is fine and you have more than enough RAM; I wouldn't worry about upgrading anything other than the GPU or adding more storage if you want.
