Hi. I have decided to throw myself into the mud and improve my PC with a new board, processor and RAM.
From an initial project in which the protagonist was a RYZEN 3 1200 I happened to give a chance to a Core i5 3550 mounted on a motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H and 16 GB ram GSkill RipjawsZ (they are second hand and have been mounted and operating on an identical board).
AFAIK this MOBO has its original BIOS.
The MOBO comes from a system that has been working fine with an ASUS GT 9800 1GB.
The current power supply will be a 650 W one (NOX Hummer), with the 80 Bronze rating (they say so, I have no proof to distrust the Brand) , and it is moving a Core 2 Quad Q9550 plus a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050 OC 2GB, mounted on an older Gigabyte board (only supports 4 GB of DDR2 RAM, already you can get an idea of how old it is), with also its original BIOS, and works like a charm without a single blue screen for 2 years, everything was installed without problems and never needed to update the BIOS to recognize the GPU, almost 9 years more current. This GPU does not need extra power cable btw.
Taking into account that the system is going to be zeroed, formatting hard disk and reinstalling the operating system along with the latest drivers, do you think I should update the BIOS or simply to be an installation "from scratch" the system will recognize the GPU without problems ?.
Of course I have read that the GTX 1050 ti series gives you problems by not being recognized by these boards (M and X series) and that sometimes you have to "flash" the BIOS, reset the CMOS, etc. But I do not know if your experience is different and I can start the upgrade with the confidence of not having the PC in dry dock for days trying to make all the components work.
Thanks in advance.
