WD Black makes odd whine at shutdowm

I have replaced my Western Digital hard drive twice, both times the drive makes this whine sound that lasts a second or two at shutdown. I have isolated the noise as when I unplug the HDD, the noise goes away? Any idea what it could be?

Could it be normal? Does the drive operate properly? If it works, I might just ignore it. It could just be the drive motor spinning down and it makes that noise.

Some people were saying it was normal, just wanted to make sure. Probably will contact WD support and ask them about it as well as a drive test.

It's very possible. Many motors make a different noise when they spin down. The magnetics are different when they spin down.

make sure the drive has the newest firmware on it. with windows 10 and how fast it shuts down a lot of hard drive you can hear them now when the hard drive parks the heads on power down.
