Hi guys I'm running Aida64 Extreme to check temps on newly applied GC-Extreme thermal compound ( replacing 2 year old arctic silver 5 ).

Slight overclock which has been on the system all along at 4.2ghz 40 ring ration 1.22v on dynamic and voltage auto.

When running test Linus tech tips said something about these test drawing a lot of voltage and possibly over volting the chip to 1.3-1.4 which is not what I need on a hyper 212 evo.

My question is this. Is it a good idea to have the overclock set to fixed and override mode for the test to stop any over volting and test the maximum overclock I have set for my chip?

Well, if it is only for testing, fixed...

Well, if it is only for testing, fixed voltage will keep the voltage stable, meaning it won't rise or drop. For everyday use, I wouldn't recommend it though.
