Hello. Right now I am looking to get a laptop to replace my desktop since I am going to go away to school and need something portable. I still want to play games in my off time, though want a laptop that has a battery that will last through lectures and classes. My budget is around 2000$ Canadian.
So far I am stuck between a msi ge63vr with a i7-7700hq and a standard 1070 or a prostar clevo P950ER with a i7-8750h and a max-q 1070. I am unsure what would last me the longest and what would cater most to what I am looking for.
I am here to ask for your opinions on these choices and to see if there are better options for my price point.
Thank you!

Well, the Clevo is probably the better choice here. The i7-8750h will have more cores than the 7700hq and the max-q 1070, while slightly slower than the standard 1070, will offer nearly the same performance at better battery life. This combo of high core count and lower power draw/heat on the graphics will extend how long the hardware is relevant. As for other models to look at, I don't have any of those. I'm just kind of assuming that you've looked around and found that these were good options for you. You could also look at Dell, Gigabyte, and Lenovo. They make good hardware and should have comparable units. I'm just not sure if they are cost competitive.
