i7 8700k with DDR3 ram?

can i do that? i have 16 gig 2400MHz DDR3 at the moment and my motherboard doesn't support DDR4. so if DDR3 is incompatible or will massively bottleneck than i will need to upgrade again :(

if your motherboard does not support DDR4 then it will not support an i7 8700K. you will need a Z370 series motherboard and DDR4 ram if you plan on going with that CPU

clearly , perhaps we should also be asking what motherboard you intend to install the 8700K into as well, I think....; let's make sure no 100-200 series boards are being planned as 8700K hosts...(you need a 300-series mainboard as well, with 95% of 8700K owners likely choosing a Z370 of some type)

yha i got some of that also. :) Just thought as well. how will this effect my installs (like windows and other software and such) i have never actualy upgraded my processor or motherboard before.

Changing the processor without changing the mobo affects your windows instalation a little. Someone recommends reinstalling windows, although I have not done it without having problems.

Change the mobo is more serious. Windows considers that it is a computer change and if your windows license is OEM then it requires buying a new windows license. If your license is reatail non-OEM then you must re-enter the key of your license. If your license is digital product of the upgrade to windows 10 the process of changing computers is more complicated and requires registration in microsoft to make the change of assignment (you can search in google how to do it)

New processor/motherboard essentially means you have a new PC. The best practice is to do a full reinstall; while you *may* be fine, problems can pop up either immediately or down the road. My advice is not to cut the corners and get it right the first time.

its enough , and you cant use ddr3 ram on 8700K ( its cant even putted there , ddr3 has 240 pin and ddr4 has 288 pin as i know )
