CPU won't boot in two motherboards

Pretty sure my i5 4570 is dead.

This all started with an MSI Z97 Gaming 5. I'd be playing games and the computer would just freeze. One time after it froze I looked at the motherboard debug LEDs and where it should have shown CPU temps it was just showing 00.

This got worse and worse to the point the computer would no longer boot.

So I figured motherboard is dying. I purchased a Z97 Gaming 7, also from MSI. Got it all hooked up, did a nice wiring job, was very careful. Hit power button and no boot. Symptoms same as before, but this time the debug LEDs did not light up at all.

Thinking I got a DOA board I bought a TUF Gryphon micro ATX Z97 board from Asus. Very nice looking with armor included. Had a lot of accessories with it.

Again I took my sweet time putting It all together, didn't hurry. Hit the power button and CPU LED comes on.

I am now convinced the motherboards I bought are not faulty as I couldn't possibly get 2 DOA boards from different manufacturers.

I have tried to reseat the processor many many times. I've cleaned the pads with alcohol and a microfiber cloth.

I have also tried a known good power supply. I have 4 sticks of DDR3 and I've put them in all 4 slots. I think I have ruled out everything but the CPU.

Is there anything else I could try? Bake the processor? Freeze the processor? Curse Intel? Make a ninja star out of it and throw It at a wall?

I have examined the pads and it looks like there is some sort of spalling or corrosion or maybe flaking. I figured the cleaning would have removed this but It has not.

Am I just unlucky and wasting money or what?

Solution
You have 2 solutions, sell the stuff you bought on ebay as NEW to someone, as they are NEW
Or buy another CPU and choose one of the boards, at least you don't need to upgrade the RAM.

Have checked both motherboards. No bent pins. I'm on a phone since I don' have a working computer or I'd upload pictures.

Gonna buy a Ryzen and 470 motherboard within a week.

Question: I used XMP memory to reach 1600 instead of 1333 the whole time I had this CPU, about 5 years now. Could this have killed it?

No this wouldn't have killed it, you must have damaged a chip inside the motherboard but getting a new one is beneficial anyway

Just wish I hadn't wasted around $400 in motherboards. Shoulda just scrapped the old tech and rebuilt from scratch.

Haven't used an AMD CPU since the old Duron days. Oh well such is progress I guess

They are 2 twin packs of crucial ballistic tactical tracer ddr3, they are sold in blue/orange LEDs and some other color combination.

Model # BLT4G3D1608DT2TX0B

I have had them since my first z87 build and they were working just fine up until the z97 gaming 5 began to freeze.

When I put any of them into either
Motherboard, in any slot or combination thereof the underside blue LEDs light up but the top row of lights which indicate which memory cells are being accessed do not light up.

They have this gimmick when you read memory they flash Faster, idle they flash slower. I assume because the tops are not lit that the boot process isn't happening.

Strangely with the Asus Gryphon board the memok! button does nothing. Asus support says it's because the red CPU LED is lit. I guess you need a working CPU to tune the memory.

They are the black and grey kind not the yellow ones

I am pretty close to a refund of $238.99 on the gaming 7 board. Been fighting with my bank for close to 90 days. It's either that or we going to court lol.

The Gryphon I suppose I could RMA back to Newegg for $155 less 15% restocking fees that ought to get me close to a Ryzen and a motherboard.

Still I'd need some ddr4 but that is better than pouring more money into this lost cause

2 twin packs

Multiple kits are not guaranteed to be compatible together. If the PC boots up the memory may not be able to run at rated specifications.

Workarounds to get extra memory to work together include:
Lower DRAM frequency
Relax DRAM timings
Increase DRAM voltage

Calvin's suggestion is certainly something to consider. Also try using no RAM and checking you get expected result, then putting the RAM in one module at a time; try different graphics cards, and PSUs (if you have access). But I expect you have done all the troubleshooting stuff.

It might be something to do with the memory (I was testing a m/b which showed unusual behaviour when booting, including beep codes [unrecognised by even the manufacturer]; turned out that one RAM module was not seated properly although it had clicked in and appeared ok - the graphics card was somehow obstructing it) or graphics (if not integrated), or PSU, or ... the lesson I learned don't always trust beep codes or their absence !

Check that any disk drives/CD drives/DVD drives are empty

Doh!
