NVMe SSD with PCIe adapter - Will it run at full speed?

Hello,
My Desktop Specs are the below:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7K-CPU @ 3.70 GHz, 3701 Mhz, 4 Core(s)
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
My question is: If I put a NVMe SSD with a PCIe adapter on my motherboard (I have already checked that I have an available PCIe slot 3.0 and x16) do I lose Write/Read speed on my SSD? I am thinking of Samsung 960 Evo and I won't use it for booting, only for Programs and Games. I have another SATA SSD for booting. The problem is that I don't think my motherboard supports NVMe. Nowhere in the manual said so and I also searched through the internet.
Thanks in advance!
