GTX 1070 or 1060

Hi,

Am looking to upgrade my GPU.
I have a I5 4670 with a gtx 750Ti right now.
But am looking to upgrade to either a gtx 1060 6G or a GTX 1070.
But the price difference is around 200€ between those 2, which is a lot.
I only play PUBG,Fortnite,CSGO , WoW, Rocket league & H1Z1.
In the future i'll probably buy a 144hz screen. But that are plans for the future.
So now my question is, would i be able to play on smooth fps on the GTX 1060 6G (settings on HIGH , cause ultra isnt a must for me) with around 100 fps on PUBG, Fortnite & h1z1? Or do i need a gtx 1070 for that? Or is the 200€ for a gtx 1070 upgrade worth it? Also if i would buy the gtx 1070, is my psu (cx450M) enough for it? Kind regards

Those games are relatively easy to run GPU-wise. A 1060 3GB may even do the trick.

I know for a fact WoW and PUBG are poorly optimized with CPU, so you may get a bigger performance boost out of even a 1050 Ti and a better CPU than you would out of a 1070 and your current CPU.

If I were you I would check your PER CORE CPU usage and see where your CPU usage is at in those games. If it is pretty high already, the CPU upgrade would definitely help.

If the plan is to upgrade all of it, you might even upgrade the CPU first, depending on what you find out about the usage.

But also, if your goal is 144Hz gaming, you might even wait for 11-series anyways. As you will likely be able to get something a lot faster for the same price as you...

I would go with the 1060 if gaming at 1080p resolution, especially for those games you've listed. A 1070 at that resolution is way overkill. Plus, with the I5 4670, less bottlenecking as those two will pair nice with each other. Thirdly, you won't have to upgrade your power supply, even though I personally would have at least 500 watts or more, just to be on the safe side.

Well, the plan is to upgrade all of it.
So i'd probably go with an 8600K in about 2-3 months.
Is it still good to have a 1060 6G by then, or better to go for a 1070?

And for 144Hz even a 1060 6GB will not hit 144fps on PUBG (the hardest of your list of games to run) on very low quality.

Your best bet may be to upgrade the CPU for now and wait for 11-series to come out, which is estimated to be Q3 2018 (so within the next 2-3 months, hopefully)

A 1070 (or something of similar power) will hit 144fps on PUBG, but only on Very low-low quality.

Honestly, get the best GPU that you can afford. Most of the games you chose will run fine on a 1060 6gb. But the 1060 has been out for awhile and it wont be long till it starts to show its age with new AAA games.

So if you are looking for longevity and like to play new games, then you may want to consider the 1070. But if you main focus is CSGO, WoW, Fortnite and Rocket League, then the 1060 will be fine because these games are older and don't require highend hardware. PUBG is the outlier, it is poorly optimized and will struggle regardless of the hardware.

PubG isnt bad these days, recent updates have improved performance massively.

I run it at 1440p high settings and get over 60-70fps average on my 1060 6gb.

That's good to know. I have not played the game in awhile so maybe I should download it and give it another run.

Yeah give it another go, just check the settings before you go into game - when I last installed it, it defaulted to maxed out settings.

A few months ago it was pretty bad though, Used to get like 40-50fps on much lower settings.

Great advice, the only issue is he expressed interest in running at 144Hz, which even at 1080p, a 1060 would struggle greatly, and fail, to accomplish.

A 1070 (or an 11-series equivalent) will be much better for that. There's no point getting a GPU that will work well for what you have now when you want to upgrade your monitor down the road and be disappointed with the performance when you do get it. Better to get what will work well with your new monitor.

Also, as I mentioned. The 11 series should be coming soon. If trends stay the same you should be able to get something equivalent to the power of a 1070 Ti for the price of a current 1060 6GB. With cryptocurrency miners finally realizing there is no profit in it, the market is returning to normal, though not where it was still.

It may be me but I would never buy a 1070 for $500-600 (when they are MSRP around $400) when in a few months something significantly more powerful will be out with that same price tag
