I mean, seeing if it was a compatibility error. Since in the listing the seller claimed it was dead and couldn't boot in a z170. Dut the seller obviously didn't send me the 7700k in the listing and I just wanted to know what chip it was before filing a claim.

You'd think if you were going to run a 'swap the heat-spreader and resell' scam, it'd be w/ a less expensive G4xxx series Pentium, etc., vice using a CPU that actually cost $185 when it was new......

But then buying one that is sold as broken anyway, and then being curious that you received the wrong but broken product is also curious... :) (Result is the same, money wasted, no functioning CPU)

So I purchased a broken 7700k, but comparing the capacitor/resistor to the sellers listing showed that they are different. I cant figure out what chip it is exactly and was hoping someone on here recognized the layout.

You bought a broken, non working CPU. How are you going to file a claim? He clearly listed it as broken/for parts. You can buy it hoping he's wrong. Turns out he was right. You have no right to file anything against this person and I hope it goes badly for you. You took a chance, it didn't pay off. Go buy a working CPU!
