I built this gaming pc for my friend. It has a GTX 960, i5 4460S on an MS-7848 oem board. His monitor only supports VGA, so we got an adapter from HDMI to VGA. At boot it kept giving 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. I looked it up and it was an graphics video error from the motherboard. Than I removed the gpu and tried the integrated graphics from the i5 4460S with the same adapter from HDMI to VGA, same problem, 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. The board luckily also had VGA output, so I connected the board straight from VGA to the monitor. This luckily worked with no problem. With this I definitely knew that it was a problem with the motherboard, and not with the GPU, since the same GPU worked fine with the HDMI to VGA adapter in my PC.
After half a day of testing, I finally got it to work. I cleared the CMOS with the jumper, that solved the problem. I gave it to my friend and it booted fine.
But the next morning, he texted me saying that the same beep problem occured again. I went over to his house again and cleared the CMOS and it worked again fine. I than switched the pc off and rebooted, it gave the same beep problems again.
Then I brought a DVI-I to VGA adapter, which I thought would be a better and permanent solution, since DVI-I and VGA both support analog video output. We tried rebooting 10 times exactly and all 10 times it booted perfectly.

So my question is. Is the motherboard not working properly or is the adapter a little defective since it isn't consistent? I think it's the motherboard, since clearing the CMOS seemed to solve the problem all the time.

Thanks for reading my essay btw.
