Hello.

I did a stress test and my CPU / PC went way over 100C.
Is this normal?

GPU: AMD Radeon 7950 HD
CPU: AMD FX-8350
Motherboard: 970A-DS3P

And what software did you base this on. I suggest CPUID's HWMonitor.

Doesn't the CPU have a thermal diode that would shut the PC off before it hits 100degC?

Anyway, if you need a good cooler (depends if you overclock) the Cryorig H7 is probably okay for $35USD or so. I like Noctua but they're a bit expensive.

$35 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/93Crxr/cryorig-cpu-cooler-h7

$50 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Ztp323/cryorig-cpu-cooler-h5ultimate

$60 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/YwGkcf/be-quiet-cpu-cooler-bk018

$65 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/DMjG3C/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhu14s

$80 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/xCL7YJ/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhd15s

I mainly mention the Noctua NH-D15S in case you might buy it then use it later in a different build. It's capable of cooling the i7-8700K to 80degC at 5GHz.. note 80degC is fine for these modern CPU's.

(NH-D15S is only 1degC to 2degC worse than the NH-D15 however it's more compatible with RAM, top PCIe slot, and is lighter so no reason to get the NH-D15 anymore IMO).

1) CPU cooler.. is that a stock cooler?

2) any OVERCLOCK?

3) that's not voltage, though what you may want to do if unsure is go into BIOS (i.e. "DEL" on bootup) and look at the numbers there. For example:

CPU voltage: 1.38V
Target CPU Speed: 4200MHz

Example OC guide: https://rog.asus.com/articles/hands-on/guide-overclocking-fx-8350-to-4-8ghz-on-crosshair-v-formula-z/

4) if HWMONITOR reports hot still you should get a new cooler... though if it's a good cooler perhaps there is a mounting issue so you'd maybe take it off, apply thermal paste then remount (just use the 5mm "pea" method... squirt a small ball into center of CPU after cleaning with 90% isopropyl alcohol then screw down cooler again).

5) I believe most people aim for 60 to 65degC for this CPU under worst-case load (not Prime95 but worst-case realistic load like 100% CPU in Handbrake converting video)

6) make sure the CPU fan is actually spinning too.

If I had to GUESS I'd think a cheap CPU cooler in a room of 20degC for that CPU would have IDLE TEMPS near the 40degC range.

1) Stock coolor I believe

2) No overclock

3) Yeah, thanks.

4) Doing that today. (I think)

6) Yeah ok.

Ok! Thanks.

problem is your stock cooler , this cpu TDP is 125W so its gonna be so much hot anyway as i exprience Q9550 on intel side ( 95W ) on stock cooler, its temp raise to 100 on load

100 degrees is unsafe for ur cpu u might wanna consider buying a external cpu cooler for ur cpu ..
