Unable to enter BIOS settings on new build

Unable to enter BIOS settings. Stuck on Asus 'American Megtrends' display on boot-up on new build with the Asus prime Z370-A / Intel i7 8700K.

I recently had problem getting any display on first boot which I posted on this forum. I discovered, after testing board outside case, one of the memory mods wasn't seated properly.

This is the first time I've actually attempted to enter the settings with this build. Only did a power up test the other night just to make sure board was working which it did after sorted memory issue. I then had to leave project. Now I finally had time to get back to finish this build (work and family distractions having subsided) I'm finding system boots only to the Asus 'American Megtrends' screen.

Acknowledges a keyboard and '2 Mice' (though only have one) connected. My keyboard is USB and though I have a PS/2 adaptor there is no traditional keyboard port on this motherboard, should this be a possible solution :/

Then screen continues:

"Detected ATA/ATAPI Devices...

"Please enter setup to recover BIOS setting.
After setting up Intel(R) Optane Memory or the RAID configuration was built, SATA Mode Selection must be changed to RAID mode to avoid unknown issues.
Press F1 to Run SETUP.

However neither the F1 key at this screen or pressing delete repeatedly on power up enters setup or BIOS settings.

I 've tried using both on-board graphics and graphics card. Also removed a memory mod so only one 16GB installed. Although correct memory was acknowledged with both single and dual memory installed.

Is this a keyboard issue or is there likely a motherboard issue here?

Was really hoping to get Windows, drivers and software all sorted today :(

Please help!

Could you try F2 during post. According to the manual you need to press delete or F2 during post. If after post the manual outlines a procedure to follow.

Quite right. Have tried F2 repeatedly during post. Just get same 'American Megatrends' screen.

Should add, don't get any beeps either.

No post messages other than this one screen display immediately after the Asus logo tagline flashes up where at bottom it says can press DEL or F2 to enter setup.

USB keyboard so plugs directly into rear USB port. No need for adaptor to use as a USB device.

Keyboard lights come on and keyboard is recognised according to screen messages.

Not sure where I have Intel's Optane Memory. As for RAID (as referred to in system message), I currently have a single Samsung SSD M.2 card fitted. No plans for a RAID configuration.

Bios Reset? How if I can't enter Bios Settings and why should I need to reset the Bios on a brand new motherboard?

And sometimes things happen for a reason we can partly know ;)

You were right to suggest resetting BIOS. I contacted Asus and they advised the same - by removing battery for 3-5 minutes, then pressing power button for 30 seconds while power still disconnected. Next to plug in PSU again and go to BIOS (if able to then access Bios Settings) and change setting in APM Configuration > ERP Ready to 'Enabled S4 + S5 or Enabled S5 and setthe Restore AC Power Loss to Last State and re-test board.

However, before doing this I wanted to try something else. By my (very simple) reasoning I felt wanted to completely rule out keyboard even though system acknowledged it being connected.

I found through Google search that some keyboards, while working with windows on some newer m/bs wouldn't work outside of Windows. So borrowed someone's newer Logitech (same brand and also USB) and plugged this in. Amazingly it worked, I finally had access to BIOS Setup!

So for anyone suffering this issue don't rule out keyboard incompatibility with your m/b BIOS. Check with another (presumably newer) keyboard.

Of course, don't know full reason for this compatibility issue but helps to know there is an issue and easier than resetting BIOS, which I assume would have made no difference in this case. :/

Thanks for help though :)

That's what I said to you in my first post.... oh well

Do you see the lights come on your keyboard?
I have noticed, some motherboards don't like to power up USB keyboards with adaptors.

Not quite. And I had said wasn't using an adaptor and the keyboard was lighting up.

Credit you however for highlighting that keyboard incompatibility (albeit when used with an adaptor) was sometimes an issue. So yeah, guess you planted the seed. So thanks :)
