I have a pretty higher than average laptop that should be able to run games pretty well. I have gone through all of my Nvidia settings to be sure that I'm 100% set up for "High Performance"! Everything works smooth ACCEPT for games. I'm trying to play a couple of pretty low spec games and they run like GARBAGE! By sons stock PC runs games as good as this lap top and that isn't right. Someone please help. Here's some details:

LAPTOP:
Dell: Inspiron 17
7000 Series

SPECS:
Processor: i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz 2.90GHz
RAM: 16GB
Video: GeForce940MX

Games that don't run well at all are "Fortnite" and "Pokemon Ultra Sun" (Citra)

Solution
Yeah...that's no "higher" than average laptop, that's a very normal laptop. the 940MX is not powerful at ALL. Just be glad you can run fortnite at low settings.

i7 Processor with 16gb RAM is definitely higher than average. But yeh I figured the graphics card wasn't the greatest and that was the reason but sheesh.. figured my specs would count for SOMETHING. If I was to replace the graphics card, would I see significant results? If so, any recommendations that would be compatible with my laptop?

Something else to think about as well.. When I first got this laptop.. I played Fallout 4 on about Medium settings and it ran just fine.. it just seems like something "happened" but maybe I'm just completely and utterly mistaken

For gaming the 'specs' that tend to count most are the videocard specs. It IS true that a few games leverage the CPU a lot more, and some might use more than 8gb ram, but nothing will overcome the lack of an adequate videocard.

If you're on a laptop then make sure all your Windows power settings are set for maximum performance and not in some kind of battery saving mode. This needs to be checked every now and then because a Windows update might reset things. Try to use AC power when gaming, since a lot of laptops have much better performance in games while running on AC power. Finally, if your laptop runs hot it'll throttle performance. So keep it clean and cool.
