Hello,

I've been trying to get my PC working for the past week ever since I installed a new CPU. I checked if it was compatible with my MOBO, which is was, so I went ahead and bought an i7 8700k.

I previously used an i7 6700k, but wanted to get an upgrade.

Here's where the problem began. After installing the new CPU, my computer would just instantly start/stop after I tried to power it on. No beeps, no BIOS, nothing. For some reason, after I try to power it on after 5-6 times, it finally turns and stays on, but NOTHING shows on my monitors and still no beep, no BIOS.

If I put in my old CPU (i7 6700k), the computer turns on and works just fine.

I figured it was the PSU, so I bought a completely new one 850WATTS. After doing all the reconnecting and everything, tried the new CPU again and BAM, nothing and same problem.

I've tried resetting the CMOS, still nothing, so I'm at a loss for what to do now.

Is my CPU faulty and I need to do an RMA? (The pens on it look in perfect condition)

Solution
i7-8700K is not compatible with your motherboard. They are both socket LGA 1151; however, Intel decided to make the 8th-gen Intel CPUs only compatible with the new 300 series motherboards.

You will have to buy a Z370 motherboard for the i7-8700K to work.

Oh wow, did not realize that, just checked the LGA 1151 lol.

Would this MOBO work?

Yep, that should do it. You will need to reinstall your Operating System to ensure proper functionality aftwer swapping motherboards.
