today I received my corsair 16gb of ddr4 2666 ram for my dell g7 7588 gaming laptop, I took out the old ram and installed the two new 8gb sticks of corsair, and tried to boot up and there was colors all over the screen and the laptop would not boot. then I removed the ram and reseated it and it booted up fine this time. then the screen was flickering and then was also freezing. so then I ran the windows ram test and came back with errors. then I took out the corsair ram and put back in the old ram and the problems were gone. so ram issues. anyone else here have the same problem? or have seen this before.

Solution
The problem is the laptop wont accept memory that has XMP profiles. If you use a memory kit with standard ddr4 2666 but with no xmp profiles it will work fine. Crucial has updated its memory selector and removed any xmp enabled memory. Use its selector and you will get a compatible kit no problem.

packersfan036, did you solve this problem?

Same here with me, with different memory modules =/

I've bought G7 with 8Gb and then the Crucial recommend memory modules - Ballistix Sport LT 16GB Kit 2 x 8GB DDR4-2666 SODIMM - BLS8G4S26BFSD, informed by Crucial System Scanner.

G7 Doesn't recognize the 2 x 8Gb Ballistix, the only setup that works is 8Gb Ballistix in Slot 1 + 4Gb Hynix (original) in slot 2. I've already updated my G7 BIOS to version 1.2.1 (May-22-2018) but it still doesn't recognize 2 x 8Gb Ballistix.

I've checked that when using both Hynix modules, BIOS setup shows 8Gb @ 2667Mhz. When using 8Gb Ballistix + 4Gb Hynix, BIOS Setup shows 12Gb @ 2400Mhz.

As far as I've read MOST of 8/16Gb 2666Mhz modules seem to behave the same way. Think we have to pressure DELL to release a fix, and also alert the memory manufacters about this issue. I'm sending emails to DELL and Micron/Crucial.

I took back my g7 and got the 16gb model. the 8gb model was just to much of a hassle. 16gb is plenty of ram for now. im sure by the time ill need 32gb they will have a fix by then.

Nope, the last one was released on May 30th (1.2.1, built on 05.22.2018).

This model with 2 x 4Gb + 256Gb SSD costed me US$ 929 before taxes ($ 170 less than the 2 x 8Gb + 128GB SSD + 1TB HD). I can't return it since I bought it in a trip to California, now I'm outside US.
Anyway, if DELL doesn't release a fix soon I'll sell the 2 x 8Gb Ballistix modules and buy a 16Gb one.
For now the laptop is working OK with 12Gb.

Yes, it's probably from the same vendor (Hynix) the one that comes with the G7 2x4GB.
More expensive and not so renown as Crucial, Corsair, Patriot.
Nevertheless, I'd buy it if I could.
