As I said in the title, my motherboard (a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R) will power on for about three seconds and then turn off again repeatedly when the CPU (a Xeon W3520) 8-Pin is plugged in to the board. This problem then goes away when I unplug the CPU power. I am currently using the power supply in a different PC with no problem. Is it just a broken motherboard?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Have you flashed to the latest bios for that board. It could be a bad CPU or MB, ive had bad CPU's but the board will still boot just to a black screen. If you can i would try just a normal intel CPU just to see if the board will boot up.
