Can't ping HP printer by hostname

I need to be able to ping devices in my network by their hostname whenever possible. I am unable to do so with any of my printers. I can ping servers and other computers on my network by their hostname but not printers. I can however ping the printers by their IP.

To use as an example, I have a HP printer 3015. I connected to the web interface via the IP and set the hostname, applied, restarted etc. Still nothing.

When I do an nslookup by the IP it says "non-existent domain."

I looked around the internet and other forums and say some hints about reverse DNS lookup but it looks complicated and I'm not sure if it's the answer.

Thanks!

Solution
It seems that the printer and/or the router do not properly register their name with the DNS service.

Option 1 (preferred): Add your printer' IP address in DHCP reservation page on your router.
Option 2: Configure printer with static IP address, and add that address in "hosts" file on each and every PC.
