Trying to troubleshoot a friend's laptop, a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530c running Windows 7 Professional. System seems to boot up fine, but logging in to the only account results in a black screen with no cursor. I can't use ctrl+alt+delete or any other way to bring up a command prompt. Does the same thing when booting in safe mode. Tried using the command prompt in startup repair to run sfc /scannow, but it says there is a pending startup repair and I need to restart the computer.
Any ideas on where to start?

Solution
from another pc make a windows media creation usb stick. see if it boots fine from the stick. also try a virus rescue disk make sure the laptop not infected. i would use a boot usb stick move his data off the laptop and run a factory restore.

I'm not sure if I'm just missing something, but the last know good config option is nowhere to be found.
