Hi I was wondering if I could get some advice on my PC to upgrade or purchase a new one. This is the PC I bought maybe about 10 years ago

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227150

Since then over time I have had windows reinstalled, upgraded to windows 10, replaced the power supply and took out the 2 graphic cards for a NVIDIA 1060.

I feel like it runs quite sluggish and even playing some newer ish games like Overwatch and Fortnite with that good of graphics cards I can hardly get 50 FPS on the lowest settings.

I don't know if its just the processor is getting so outdated over the past 10 years or what the problem is why everything runs so slow I feel it meets and exceeds the system requirements of all these.

Anyways if you look on that website are any of the other components getting to out dated that it wouldn't be worth upgrading anymore and just to buy a new PC?

Solution

Get a new solid state drive, and a new cable, install Windows clean. The CPU is getting to be a bit aged, but it's not a bad one. See how a new drive and clean Windows setup helps. I would also make sure the RAM is running in dual channel...
You could probably overclock the chip and extend the life, make sure you do a clean reinstall of the OS and everything if its been a few years, or see if there is a used chip that can give you a boost.

However I wouldnt bother putting alot of money int the system and would instead aim for a new one.

Yeah and just recently too when I start my computer I get this black screen and near the bottom it says:

"Ultra DMA Mode-5, S.M.A.R.T. Capable and Status Bad"
"Sec Slave Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. Status Bad. Press F1 to resume"

So I'm guessing I that could also help contribute to why its going slow but I don't know to much about PC's haha and even if I can fix whatever the problem is I know the main components of the computer are 10 years old and can't replace them without a complete new PC.

It still runs perfect other than a bit sluggish and low FPS in games but I am going to assume it will die sooner or later then haha, is there no other components I can take from it for a new PC like the RAM or anything other than the graphic card of course

Get a new solid state drive, and a new cable, install Windows clean. The CPU is getting to be a bit aged, but it's not a bad one. See how a new drive and clean Windows setup helps. I would also make sure the RAM is running in dual channel mode, so matched size sticks in the paired RAM slots.
