I recently upgraded to Xfinity Gigabit internet and after lots of testing, confirmed that the issue is with my PC.
My roommate tested on his desktop and is getting around 900 mbps download with speedtest.
When I try, I can never get past 250 mbps.
I've been looking into this for a while and can't figure out what's wrong.
Also interesting to note that when I use speedtest.googlefiber I can get up to 560-600 mbps download. But I like using Speedtest.net as a solid base/foundation for most accuracy.
UPDATE: VERY interestingly, when I use firefox, I can get up to 700mbps on Speedtest.net
Using IE or Chrome, I max out at 180mbps usually but can sometimes get up to 250mbps.
I uninstalled Chrome and deleted ALL previous files/settings and same issues remain.
I just ran Malware bytes and tried to see if that would help, but no changes.
None of this makes any sense to me. Even 700 is on the lower side. I should be getting 800-900.
I have a newly built gaming pc. Here are some of my specs.
8gb Corsair DDR4 Ram
Intel i7 8700 processor
250gb Samsung SSD
EVGA 1060 6gb GPU
ASUS Z370-A Motherboard
I am hardlined with an ethernet cable directly from the 3.1 gigabit modem provided from Comcast to my PC.
I will also say, that during my build process, I accidentally pulled out the USB 3.0 plug and now my front USB ports don't work because I damaged the pins on the motherboard apparently.
Not sure if this could somehow correlate to my slow internet speeds
I opened my network settings, went to connections, opened Ethernet 5 which I am connected to, and opened the properties. I then went to configure and checked the Link Speed tab which shows 1.0Gbps Full Duplex as the settings. Also says (EEE: Not Negotiated) . Not sure if that is relevant or not. But yeah, anyways...
Please help!!
Willing to pay someone who can help me find a fix.
Thanks so much.
