Yesterday when i plugged in my gpu into my mobo and started my pc, the bottom of the gpu set on fire (until i plugged it out). I got scared that my computer was broken but it works fine. I was wondering if it is safe to plug in another gpu in the same pci-e slot as the one that burned?

GPU (That burned): Asus GTX 1060 6gb OC
GPU (Temporary): GTX 580
Motherboard: MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon

Update: I have warranty on the 1060 so i'll wait for it to come before i plug a 580 into the same pcie slot. Until then i will use another pcie slot.

Well, the question is why did it burn. Did the pci socket cause it or did a capacitor fail badly. If the socket looks good I would say its safe to plug the temp in. Worst case is it goes up in flames also.

What I'm interested in, is what do you mean by "Yesterday when i plugged in my gpu into my mobo", does this mean you literally plugged the GPU in yesterday and it caught fire, so it's new? Then you said you plugged it out, did you remove the card while the PC was running?

The gpu isn't new (ive had it for about 7 months). Yesterday i redid my pc because i wanted to fix my cable management. I plugged the gpu in, then the power in. When i switch on the power on my PSU, the GPU's led glowed like it should. But when i started my pc it started burning.I plugged out the powercable and then pulled out the GPU. So yes the pc was on when i plugged it out
