I just bought a new cpu, i used to have an i5 7400.

My old cpu was always at max 75c on whatever games i was playing, and now the i7 7700 is around 100c while playing any bloody game. The cpu usage is never more than 30% and my cooler fan is always going crazy. Any thoughts or solutions?

Update: Even just at web browsing i get spikes around 85c+

Update: I changed the thermal paste for the third time, and reupdated the bios. I stays at 75c- while gaming.

Solution

75C for an i5 7400 is very high for a CPU with a CM Hyper Evo 212.I am running an i7 4790 with CM TX3 Evo which is a lower spec cooler than the Hyper Evo 212 and my CPU never gets to 65C under load.

Do you have sufficient airflow in your case? I would re-apply thermal paste and make sure the cooler is secured correctly.
Also try the stock cooler that came with the 7700 just to check...

1. I did reapplied thermal paste
2. Ive been using this cooler for almost a year. With 3 different cpu's including this one, this is the firt time that i have this problem
3. And yes, the fan its connected to CPU_FAN (white) and running
