CPU upgrade question

so i want to upgrade my intel i5 6600k but i have heard that i will have to chance my mothebord and ram can some one tell me if this is true and why ?

specs:
mobo : asus 170 pro gaming
gpu: asus gtx 1070 ti
ram: corsair vengence 2400
ssd: samsung 250g

No, if you want a better CPU such as the 7700K then you'll want to make sure your BIOS is up to date. As for the 8700(K) or 8600(K) you would need a newer motherboard as the socket is the same but they are only supported on H310/B360/H370/Z370 boards.

If you still need reassurance, I can completely agree with the comment above.

For 6th or 7th gen Intel CPUs you won't need to change your mobo whatsoever. The only "difference" would be a BIOS update for the 7th gen.

With that said, again, you would need to make the change if you were upgrading to a 8th gen Intel CPU. If not, completely fine.

thank you i was really unsure after those guys told me that i would need to upgrade my other hardware and my i updated my bios like a week ago to the latest bios
