Internet drops off every few days

Three weeks ago, I replaced my ancient modem/router combo (Actiontec GT704WG It was twelve years old!) with a new Actiontec Wireless N dsl modem/router combo GT784WN. It works lovely, and I have no other complaints. Except, for an unknown reason, it drops the internet connection every few days. All the lights remain on, and my phone remains connected to the wi-fi, but my computer says it has no internet connection. I have it currently connected vis an etherport cable. Its just a mild annoyance, since all I have to do is turn off/on the modem and its back in a few seconds, but I don't know why it drops.

Does the following link match your modem/router?

Verify that the power connections at both the outlet and modem are snug and tight. If loose or wiggly there may be momentary power losses at the modem causing the drops.

Next, begin checking the telephone line connections involved.

Try some new telephone cables - switch out one cable at a time for a few day to see if the problem ends.

Also be sure to note Step 14 and the DSL filter requirements. Filters can go bad and need replacement.

And remember that the Ethernet cable can be equally suspect. Swap it out with a known working Ethernet cable.

Intermittent problems are difficult to diagnose especially when occurring...

Intermittent problems are difficult to diagnose especially when occurring days apart.

Try to become aware of other network/internet things that are happening and you may discover a pattern or other common factor with respect to the drops.
