My CPU fan is upside down

I have a big coolermaster hyper 12 turbo CPU fan, and my noobish self slapped it on so that its blowing air downwards instead of the top. Is this a problem or is it fine, and how to I check my temps (and what temps are good). Thanks

Solution

Blowing downward is bad, it goes against the natural airflow of the case.

OP the fan is removable on the 212 EVO. Take it off, move it to the other side of the cooler so it blows upward and reinstall it. Its a simple change.
I'm not following... the 212 is a heatsink with horizontal fins isn't it? So you should have one fan blowing through the fins and it doesn't really matter which direction it is blowing. As long as air is being blown or pulled over the fins and heatpipes it shouldn't be a problem.

It depends on the layout and airflow through your case. The CPU tends to be the hottest component, so temps inside the case are lowered if air coming from the CPU heatsink is immediately or quickly ejected from the case. If your case has a grille or fan near the CPU, the heatsink fan should be oriented to blow air towards it. Or better yet, it should have a duct so hot air is directly sent out of the case.

See, when I read blowing downward my automatic assumption is towards the motherboard. I'm sort of ancient that way I guess. Towards the motherboard is good. Now when someone says blowing down and they mean inside the case, well that doesn't quite register either because in that case the fans shouldn't be blowing up or down, they should be front to back, blowing right into that big fan that sucks the heat out of the case. I don't even know how you mount a fan to blow down. That is very strange to me and whomever thought that was ok to design a heatsink in which that can happen is obviously insane.

He did say downward which would normally mean at the motherboard, but he said Hyper 212 which is a tower cooler. Nothing insane about it, he just mounted it in the wrong direction, it happens.

Blowing towards the rear of the case OR blowing towards the top of the case (assuming the case has a top vent) are both acceptable solutions. In fact even without a top vent blowing upward isn't totally bad, the rear fan will still draw the heat out.
