Overheating Clevo M77 circa 2010 laptop, i7 720QM. I noticed over the years my laptop getting warmer. Fan is OK all ducts are clear. Now on start up the CPU and the GPU reach very high temps within 1 minute just starting the OS, too hot to touch the the copper heatsinks. The power brick is OK 19V no-load. However the battery states 10.8V but I measure it at 12.6V. Removing the battery doesn't cure it. The chance of me fixing anything on the mobo is zero. Any ideas?

Solution
If you can't do it yourself, then I would suggest taking it to a local tech and have them check the fan as well as replace the thermal paste. I know you said the fan is OK but working and working correctly are two different things. Plus, if it is an older laptop and the thermal paste has never been replace (assuming it hasn't) then it would be a very common cause of overheating.

If that doesn't resolve it, you may well wind up needing the motherboard replaced.
