On board Realtek Network Adapter missing from Device Manager, and USB ports next to it not working.

I was changing out my graphics card yesterday and so I shutdown my computer, installed the card, turned it back on and got a red X on my network adapter on the task bar. So, not knowing where my motherboard disk was, I thought hey...system restore might help. Well I tried that and windows crapped out resulting in critical stops and got so bad that none of the built in repair functions would do anything. So I said ok, time to reinstall windows then. Grabbed an old W7 disk I had and installed windows, did all the updates, got my usb netgear wireless adapter to work and installed the updates as well as downloaded the driver I was missing for my LAN adapter. Went to install the driver and I get this error message, "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled. Please Plug the Cable." Now I was confused, so I went into device manager to check my realtek adapter out and it was missing, not in hidden devices and not in other devices either. The odd thing is that my two USB ports next to it also have gone out, they show up in device manager as other devices but this isn't exactly a dedicated network card I can just replace, its the onboard one in the back of the board. I tried going into my BIOS and selected to Load Optimized Defaults and even that did nothing. Is it possible my Ethernet port got fried?

I have a rule: Always remove the plug before working inside a PC because they are not really off with a Windows shutdown.

Yes its possible the motherbd has been damaged. If you have integrated graphics you can try using, try removing your new GPU and seeing if it has something to do with the GPU.
