Hello everybody!

My best friend is finally getting into PC gaming, and his buget is *very* limited.

I have an Pentium E2180 CPU laying around, and I decided to give it to him,the local tech shop in town has an old Socket 775 motherboard, with an capacitor kinda faulty, but I can use an old motherboard to take one from it,and put it in the motherboard.
Also found an HD 7750 2GB GPU for little as 100$. 8GB of 800Mhz DDR2 RAM.
For the case, well,it is an random ATX case, good enough. Also, the PSU is an 550W FSP HEXA PSU. My cousin has an 500GB SATA 2 Hard Drive laying around,I can format it and give it to him, then get an cheap SSD and the jobs done.

ALSO! He wants to play :
*All* the GTA games.
ARMA 2
*All* the Battlefield games till BF Bad Company 2.
*All* the COD games till Black Ops 2.
Emulation of almost every old console, also the GameCube.
Skyrim.
The Counter-Strike series.
Mod the hell out of DOOM and DOOM II. (With Zandronum,of course.)
Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X 2
Splinter Cell games.
The Rainbow Six : Vegas series.
Mirrors Edge.
The Borderlands games.
And last but not least, the great Fallout New Vegas.

He plans to not upgrade anything, because he is an casual gamer, will this be enough?

Thank you in advance!

No. Just from the get-go, GTA:V has a firmware set minimum requirement of a 4thread cpu, such as i3+HT or better.

Mods are scripted, they use high amounts of cpu usage, even my heavily modded Skyrim sees a constant 6 thread usage on my i7, and bottlenecks my i5. FO:NV will also be the same as it's the same engine as skyrim. Pretty much you'll need at least a 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge i5 to get any playable fps out of most of those games, requiring also ddr3, @8Gb is advised at 1600/1866MHz ($20 or less on ebay)

To put it bluntly, you are trying to run the Olympic 100yrd dash wearing a pair of Combat boots from Goodwill. Not only will you come in dead last, but the crowd will have time for a smoke before you cross the finish line.

I searched on youtube: "Pentium E2180" and I saw that GTA V could run fairly well with an E2180 paired with an GT 440...is it fake? Also,BF 4 with E2180 + HD5450...are they fake? He has kinda big hopes...

What is his budget? Location? If it is very low, best bet is stay with consoles. If he is really adamant, then go ahead. Sometimes it is better to let them be.

In Romania an GTX 1080 is over 2000 dollars....so so prices really bloody suck.
His parents would give him as little as 300 USD...always buying second hand,he is really insistent, should he learn it in the hard way? Then what games can he play?

My setup in my profile cost $600 and every part was bought through eBay. Took me @6months of searching and bidding. That was over 4 years ago, when many parts were a lot more readily available and usually cheaper as a result.

To get playable fps on GTA:V requires 2 things from the cpu. Either a hacked version with a Pentium G3258 Oc'd to @4.5GHz or better, or a 4 thread cpu. That's game requirements. It's not up for debate. It simply does not run on dual thread cpus, it's hard coded not to. Unless you get the firmware hack bypassing that, and then you had better have serious IPC levels to punch through the strings. There's no way a E2180 has either the power necessary, even with the hack, nor the speeds or ram speed requirements using 800MHz DDR2 at anything more than a 800x600 resolution.

Stick to consoles. Pc's are not cheap and trying to slide in with a 10 yr old pc trying to play games designed for pc's only 2-3yrs old is a fools game.

Exactly.

There is just way too much bad info out there on YT these days. People making those BS videos just to get clicks etc.

Actually there are whole YT accounts cratering to BS like this, and more than a few of them. Bunch of them with out of date junk PC's supposedly running current AAA games. Slapped together with junk parts and or refurbished garbage with crap parts added.

We get the aftermath here unfortunately when those crap PC's don't work like they say in the videos.

How many times he we read?

I saw this video :sarcastic:

Ppl who make those YT videos only show what's possible, not what's probable. There's really no mention of exactly what is done to the pc, the settings, the sheer lack of anything besides the OS and that one game, the hours spent tailoring it for that game, the absolute minimization of any background tasks, using a Lite version of Windows that has no extraneous bs like MS Shop or Cortana or any Antivirus or malware software, etc etc etc. It's generally a useless comparison since the average pc is used as more than a pure console platform.

Yeah and people actually believe it....

That's the sad part.

GTA On a pentium? Best LGA775 CPU Is gonna be the core 2 quad q6600 mate or a newer quad. Pentiums just don't pull. These days the sweet spot is the early I5 machines such as dell. I have an i5 3470 1050ti dell optiplex 3010 but it's just easier to get an i5 2400 with a 750ti as they are affordable.

LGA775 Based boards just don't cut in 2018 sadly.
