Computer Shutsdown randomly under load when on power performance mode.

Specs:
I7-8700k
MSI Z370 Gaming Plus(MS-7B61)
Corsair Dominator platinum 16 gb
GTX 1070

I was playing on an I7-7700k and an Asus Z-170A mobo and would have very rare occasions when it would turn its self off in the middle of playing counter strike under load. If i am surfing or doing something light it never shutdowns.

I just bought the new motherboard and cpu in the specs and everything ran fine. But then I changed the power mode to high performance and cant make it through a full match without 2-4 random shutdowns. If i move the power mode back to balanced the shutdowns stop entirely.

I'm on all the newest drivers and am not overclocking. I am using the turbo boost so it clocks its self to what it thinks it needs. But this doesn't seem to be an issue. On cam software before the crashes there is no indicators. It runs very cool even under load at around 60-65c in game. The gpu also runs at a good temp. The event viewer shows no errors at the time of crash. I have also reinstalled windows twice on my old setup and twice on this new setup. So the only consistency i can find is the power settings on high performance. On my old setup i had it on bitsum highest performance.

At this point i'm pretty lost and i can only think its my psu. Also my windows is very very clean and most useless services are disabled and almost no useless processes running. I would like to fix this so i can get a more stable frame rate with unparking my cpu.

Solution
- Balanced mode: your max GPU usage 16% very low: your balanced mode is not throttling your CPU but throttling your GPU, check advanced balanced mode settings for your PCIe disable Link state power management> and Nvidia control panel for fine tuning GPU from adaptive mode to performance mode

- High performance max GPU usage 55% (acceptable)
GPU FAN RPM low in both around 10% although max temps slightly higher in high performance
>> suspecting crashing due to poor cooling of the internals your Nvidia GPU that are overheating despite of the overall within specs temperature 57 max because GPU fan running slow due of smoother fan curve
Solution : adjust 1070ti fan curve to a custom...

Can you please upload HWMONITOR screen shot when computer idling then when gaming in balanced mode then in High performance mode
(please include Voltages, CPU GPU clocks and temps, fan speeds and other temps complete capture)
What PSU brand and wattage are you using ?

Here in the hwmonitor from balanced power mode with cs in the backround :https://gyazo.com/ecb6acf43dc5777b6689d9ed825d08fd

These are from high performance after playing 30 sec of max cs load then tabbing out and recording:

Also in the power options in windows, i cant change to high performance there. It just goes back to balanced when i try to change it. I can only change it through a cpu core unparking utility. Also cs feels alot smoother when im in high performance mode.

My psu is a corsair 650w silver rated.

at first glance your system runs cool at low RPM on the fans and low utilization while gaming too ( although you tabbed out),
Could be the PSU but 650 is more than enough juice for your system, or it could be some RAM or CPU unstable minor overclock through voltage or some other parameters revealed when system is pushed far performance wise.
maybe a bios reset to default values would help.

Solution : adjust 1070ti fan curve to a custom more abrupt one (using MSI afterburner) and keep an eye on its temps while gaming using GPU z on sensors tab with option of having it's windows on top of other windows all the time keeping it at a corner of your screen while gaming as a quick monitoring solution (more options for monitoring with MSI/ rivatuner/HWinfo64 for seamless in-game overlay monitoring)
Or if you can just bump up the graphics fan speed to a static 50 to 60% while gaming as a quick test , probably no crash would occur.

Solution
if it still under warranty (ps) rma it. looks like you may have some weak or old caps. also with your power supply make sure it haswell and newer support. some older analog units will fail on newer cpu and mb. a few years ago a lot of analog power suppys had to be tested/repalced do to intel low power set.

Thank you everyone so much for taking the time to help me. I managed to go through a full match with out my pc turning off. And now CS is smoother than ever. Ill also look into the psu thing if a crash occurs.
