So I used to have a motherboard on my old (and superior) machine, but being the idiot that I am I tried to plug something into the motherboard while it was still on. This obviously blew the fuse in my house and no matter what we tried the board didn't boot. So I shelved it for a while before I today wanted to look at it again, and to my surprise it booted just fine. I then thought Hey! Guess it wasn't broken after all. I then tried to use it in a new build and then... poof. Fuse went again. After that I didn't have time to keep looking at it, but after reading this post -- http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1672395/blew-board-fan-header-dead-board-functions.html -- I'm suspecting that it wont boot because of the fan header. Is this even possible? Can a broken fan header make a "working" card seem totally broken and blown?

I find it strange though, turning on the powersupply is like a game of chance. Sometimes it takes the fuse and turns of the lights in the room, but turning the fuse back on and trying again the system works as if nothing was ever wrong. As soon as the powersupply is on I can restart the system and turn it off and on just as I want. But moving it into another room and turning the powersupply on the same game of chance happens. What could possibly have this almost 50/50 chance of a short?
