Hi, I found my old Pentium IV 2.8 Ghz PC, and I would like to turn it into a media platform of some sort. I was thinking linux. I would use it for web browsing, maybe some youtube and twitch, some light text editing and for watching movies and listening to music. The PC is my very old gaming PC, with a Pentium IV 2.8 GHz CPU, 2 GB of RAM, a 256 MB NVidia GPU and 160GB HDD. I tried lubuntu, but it's not running as smooth as I hoped it will. Any ideas for some other distro? Thanks :)

Would it be possible to add another 2GB of RAM? If you have 4GB of RAM, the P4@2.8GHz and a dedicated GPU (no matter how outdated) should be good enough to run almost all modern distros as long as you're not doing something very demanding (like using HankBrake or VirtualBox) or using a heavy DE (like KDE with lots of Plasmoids), and you manage to find a 32 bit PAE version.

Here's
a list of the top 10 lightweight distributions if RAM upgrade is not possible.

Personally, my vote goes to Manjaro Xfce in the above list.
But if that's not performing well, I'd go for Bodhi. (Get the legacy ISO if the CPU is 32 bit, the standard if it supports 64 bit)
The 3rd best would be AntiX.

Good luck.

Thanks for the idea. Unfortunately, the MOBO doesen't support more than 2GB of RAM, so I can't upgrade. I will try them in the order you specified.
Cheers :)
