This is probably a super petty and anal attentive post, but i have a legitimate specific question and other questions about motherboards in general.

So, i couldn't reach my PCI tab (that pushes the graphics card out or clicks in when the GPU is properly seated) and i used a marker to try and reach and push it down. To no avail, i couldn't get it to click up -- and then i hit my marker several times next to the VSAT/on the VSAT little chip situated next to one of the PCI slots on the motherboard. Knowing that i was taking out a GPU to RMA it, i have no other alternatives other than personal worry about the innuendo... since i'm a worry wart when it comes to electronics. I don't see any visible scratches, but when applying pressure to the tab... it kind of slipped off and hit the motherboard a couple of times.

Would this presumably do any damage to the board itself? I see no scratched or VISIBLE damage, but i don't know exactly how durable motherboards are. I'm already worried, since i moved like 5+ graphics cards in my PCI slot for it to be bent... but idk. Slipping and hitting any sort of electronic with something always takes concern in my book... even if its nothing. So i'd like a second opinion on it. I gave the model of the motherboard incase someone were to look specifically for me. It was a sharpie (cap on, of course) so you can kind of get the idea of how blunt/rounded the end is. Also, with my other questions about durability with motherboards in general, specifically my model, how much can they take before i start getting problems?

Motherboard's can be quite fragile. I would certainly use caution when removing or installing a GPU.

I have experienced the same frustration and have even resorted to using a screw driver to press down on the PCIe latch. I've slipped and hit the motherboard. I've not experienced any damage or problems because of it though.

I'd say a plastic sharpie would be less capable of damaging the motherboard than a screwdriver. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you see physical damage.

But like I said earlier, it's not exactly a good idea to mash down with something that can slip and hit the motherboard. With GPUs being so thick, especially with backplates, I'll be curious to hear better ideas on how to release the PCIe latch when it can't be reached with the your fingers.

Makes me feel a little at ease. When i hit it, what got me worried was seeing the VSAT chip and not knowing how it could affect whatever the heck the chip does for the motherboard itself. For me, i have a problem with my hands, if I bother to touch any electronics... I profusely sweat due to some medical condition. So there really was no other alternatives than some elongated device, haha.

So no cause of worries for me if no visible damage?

Also, last question: since it WAS the VSAT chip and the little, tiny lines in between -- what would be worst case scenario? Would it affect sound or the OS ect? Thanks again for the answer. I'm over here stressed and freaking out because this is my 4th RMA'd graphics card, and i started to notice the back end sagging because i have to apply pressure to get the cards plate screwed in tight everytime i put in the same, 1080 FTW Hybrid model. Then the icing of the cake was taking that sharpie and then accidently smacking the bottom of the motherboard, next to the PCI slot. :p
