Me and my family use the virgin super hub 2 and I have done loads of research and that definitely doesn’t work with Xbox one and that is the console I have and I am thinking of getting a gaming router and I am unsure of how they work? Do I need to pay monthly for such routers and do I need to connect them to my virgin router or what is the deal cause I am definitely no expert

I'm not hugely experienced with virgin but I believe they are one of those ISPS that require you to use their router.
The compromise is to set it to modem mode and then connect your third party router to that.

With third party routers you tend to get what you pay for.

Be sure that its actually a crappy router and not your wireless settings or internet conenction before wasting money.
E.g have you tried changing wireless channels etc.
