HDD not detected in new PC build

Hey guys,
I recently built my first pic
The first time I booted it up and started the bios, the HDD was not detected but the DVD Drive was.
I have tried everything (changing the cables, changing settings in the BIOS etc.)to try and get it to work but it still won't detect it. Will the fact that it is a 2.5 HDD affect it in any way? How loud should the humming noises be?
Here are the specs
Zebronics G31 Motherboard
Seagate barracuda 1TB HDD
Intel core 2 duo
Kingston Valueram 2 GB DDR2 RAM
Asus DVD drive (IDE Cable)

Solution
Hi dildev098, the performance should not be affected unless the sound coming from the drive indicates that the drive is in bad condition. If you hear clicking sounds it is best to stop using the drive as this will damage the drive in such a way that if you ever want to retrieve data from it you wont be able to. Visit this link and see if the sound you hear is one that is on this list. This will let you know where the problem lies. Best of luck and keep us updated.

If your hard drive is IDE drive you have to look up it's proper jumper settings (located next to the power and data connectors of the hard drive) when drive is by itself on IDE channel or when is coupled with another one as master and slave.

No, the hard drive has a SATA connector, it is the DVD drive which has an IDE connector

It is currently set on that.
I tried changing it to compatible but nothing happened

I set Configure SATA as AHCI
Should I change the SATA channel? It is currently set as before PATA

Hey there,
I do not have access to another computer but the thing is that this is a 2.5 HDD rather that a 3.5 one.
Will this in any way affect its performance? Otherwise I can hear the regular humming and clicking sounds from it
