Is the Pentium g4560 worth getting in 2018?

I'm building a new PC this summer, and due to my budget I'm on the fence weather to pair the g4560 with a 1050Ti, or the Ryzen 3 1200 with a standard 1050. I'll be using this PC for school work and some light gaming (Mostly e-sport titles). My original plan was to go with the g4560, but most of the complaints are that it doesn't have a good upgrade path, and of course, its only a dual core. So my question would be, is it worth sacrificing CPU performance for GPU performance, or vice versa.

goodnight ulosmeme05,
Answering your question between the two combinations I would choose G4560 + GTX 1050 TI.
The reason is that for school work the G4560 is enough and, for games, GTX 1050 ti is considerably better.

In addition, the Ryzen need to give all their power a fast and special DDR4 ram for ryzen like the Flarex of 3200. For the G4560 a DDR of 2400 is sufficient.

I would get the Pentium G5400 Gold instead on 300 series motherboard platform that can support 8th-gen Coffee Lake.

It costs a little more, but would be worth it if you decide to upgrade in the future.

With AM4 300 series chipsets you will need a bios update administered by a compatible CPU. A CPU boot kit can be requested from AMD. https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/2Gen-Ryzen-AM4-System-Bootup.aspx
