Today I first open and test out my rugged portable hard drives which is newly bought on Amazon. It's also shipped and sold from Amazon which is supposed to be , at least, real products. I tried to transfer some files between drives. It's USB 3.0 ports but speed of transfer is just around 15MB / s or less while I am testing another portable drives of mine which are a Seagate and a Western digits, the speed of transfer is on average 30MB /s which is a double.

In fact I never heard of the brand Silicon Power until it's advertised and shown up on Amazon. Can I trust this brand? or Not to trust this brand? The packaging is very simple (and too simple in my opinion) What do you think?

I also read some negative review that says, the hard drive does not last half a year. I am quite worried. What do you think? Should I return it when I smell something unusual??

Silicon Power is a well-known international tech manufacturer: http://www.silicon-power.com/web/us/

However, they don't actually make the actual hard drives so you don't know what you're getting when you buy an external one.

I only by WD externals because I know that, since WD is an HDD manufacturer, all their externals will have WD drives in them.

Same applies to Seagate (they all have Seagate drives inside them) but I have had poor reliability with them - - not so WD.

I've decided to return the hard drive to Amazon because I don't want to take any risk.

However, the sealing opening is broken, will they accept my return?
