Hello,

I have an Asus Strix Z270i Motherboard and a CPU Cooler with ARGB lighting that requires an internal USB 2.0 Header for control. One problem though, the motherboard only has a USB 3.0 Header! I was going to utilize that 3.0 Header for my front panel anyway so it technically doesn't have any USB headers, BUT -- There is a USB 3.1 Header on the motherboard. Does anybody know a way I can have a USB 2.0 Internal Header on my motherboard? Adapters maybe, but no PCI adapters because there is only 1 x16 slot which is being utilized by my GPU.
The available slots are: 1x M.2, 1x USB 3.1.

If anybody knows any adapters that can get me an Internal 2.0 Header or maybe a hub that plugs into a 3.0 Header, has 3.0 Header for my front panel and can be used (via an additional adapter or not) for a USB 2.0 Header, PLEASE Reply below!

I see Moddiy has a 3.0 Splitter (Here) so if one of the headers from the 2 (on the split end) can power 2 front panels plug my RGB Controller, then this would be a better option I believe.

This is my second choice, but I feel like it will be too crammed in my ITX case and have so much more cable mess.

Thank You!

Ah I ran across that too. I see this is only 5 pins, while the actual internal header has 9. What is the difference? What do the other 4 do?

Hey,
So I didn't necessarily find the solution I'd love to do, but there's a two-part adapter method that can help with this, which is what I may resort to.
Basically, I want my front panel USB to work as well as another USB 2.0 Header for my CPU Cooler, and I only have 1 USB 3.0 Header.

So, I found a USB 3.0 Splitter, that supposedly transfers data as well as power, etc on both ends.
You will plug THIS 3.0 Splitter into your motherboard, and route the other ends wherever. This adapter basically makes it from 1 USB 3.0 Header into 2 USB 3.0 Headers. One for the front panel, and one for the next adapter:
Next, you will have to buy THIS ADAPTER which you will plug into one end of the split ends (since the other can be utilized for something else, in this case, the front panel USB.) Then after you route it wherever you need it to be, etc. you can connect the cable that needs the USB 2.0 (such as my CPU Cooler) and by concept, data should be transfered on both ends, without an additional power source.

If you're kinda not trusting ModDIY incase you never heard of them before, don't worry about it. They're a really good company, I bought adapters from them before.
Do mind tho, these cables are a little short and could possibly be a little stiff, making them uneasy to route. But don't let that take you away from this method because it will most likely work.

I haven't tried it yet, but when I do order it and put them together, I will definitely leave a reply again for you about the outcome.

Awesome , thanks for the reply. This setup with the 2 cords you linked is the most convenient solution i have come across but still not sure if all data and power will be distributed evenly and at full power through both cable. i might just have to buy it and see for myself , if you do end up trying it for yourself please re post with answer!

P.S. yes i am a little worried about ordering from that website , i have never seen it. What is even weirder is i can NOT for the life of me find that cord on any other webiste.

I should be able to run the 2 Adapter setup soon (but not sure how long) so if you happen to do it before me, great! Let me know how it goes!

As for the site, don't worry. I was endlessly looking for so many different types of adapters and this is the only site I found, so I just went for it and I was actually very pleased. The adapters I got so for were really high quality and working right out of the box. They're actually pretty cheap too. I guess these guys understand what some of us PC Builders need that other name brand companies don't understand. It takes about a week and a half to ship to America though. Even though they're based someone in Asia, their support speaks english and are just really good as a company. I'd recommend them, that's why I was easy on choosing that adapter from them based on my past experiences.
