Newly-Installed PCE-e board not working

My work PC is a Fujitsu Esprimo P2560 with an intel pentium dual core processor and 4GB RAM, running Windows 10 Enterprise. It doesn't have USB 3.0 ports so I decided to install some. I bought a 4-port PCI-e off AMazon which came with drivers, and have installed it in the machine, and isntalled the drivers.

It's recognised in Device Manager as VIA USB 3.0 eXtensible host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft), but when I plug a standard logitech plug-and-play mouse into one of the new usb ports, nothing happens.

I've tried rebooting and also uninstalling the PCI-e then rescanning for new hardware.

I read somewhere about a problem with how Windows 10 manages the motherboard drivers for USB hubs, or something - the author of that page recommended that you just uninstall the motherboard usb driver and all should work, but I've no idea a) if that's good advice and b) how to do it!

I've alsot tried DriverMax just to check, but there's nothing.

Please can someone help? Thanks

Yeah thats not true, and even if it were it would not prevent a USB 3.0 card from working. USB 3.0 simply did not exist at the time of its manufacture, and the system bus speed was slower than it anyway.

OP why bother with USB 3.0 ports, the rest of the i/o of your system likely can't keep up with it. That said removing the motherboard USB drivers won't hurt anything.

Go into Device manager and look for your standard USB ports right click and choose "Uninstall Driver". This may clear up your issue.

I think the bigger problem is that I hadn't installed the power supply to the card (first-class muppet here) but when I've looked there's no Molex or Sata Power sockets on my MB. There are small SATA sockets but no larger one. Is there an adaptor I can get?

Power is not drawn from any motherboard socket, if that card needs power it needs to come direct from the PSU.

Can you post me a link to the card you purchased?

Thanks so much. Basically the SATA power socket was part-way along one of the wires coming from the PSU, but looking in the side of the PC it was hidden out of view because the Hard Drive was in the way. I only found it when I decided to feel my way along all the wires and realised that that socket wasn't connected to anything.
