I have the configuration above and cannot get my video card to recognize that my monitor does 2K.

Card has VGA, HDMI & Dual-Link DVI
Monitor has 2 HDMI and VGA

Using an HDMI cable shows 1920x1080
Using a DVI to HDMI cable shows 1920x1080
Using VGA shows 1920x1080

I purchased a Dual-Link DVI (male) to HDMI adapter (female) and plugged an HDMI cable into that and still only get 1920x1080

What do I have to do to get 2K resolution from this combination? Also, if it's not possible please say so and I'll replace whichever one of them to get 2K.

The Dual-Link DVI to HDMI adapter won't do the trick? No biggie, if not which 'cheap' video card do you recommend that does 2K HDMI?

It depends how cheap you want to go. The go-to right now for new cards is the GT 1030. I'm not sure about used cards. If you want to game at 2k you are going to want something beefier like a GTX 1060 or RX 580 as a minimum. Just for display the 1030 will do you well.

I don't game at all, I just need browsing and youtube @ 2K. I looked at a GT710 but I can't find out which ports do which resolutions. Can you point me at the sources you use?
