Hello,

1. I need advices from you to choose a GTX 1080 VGA card.
In my city, I can only find these 2 cards: MSI Armor OC (cheaper) and Asus Strix
I use it to run deep learning (tensorflow).
I'm wondering which one shoud I choose.
I prefer the cooling and durable one. I'm not gonna OC.

2. Is it a good time to buy a GTX 1080 card. I heard that new Turing is coming in July. Should I wait for the price drop of GTX 1080 when the new Turing comes?

Thank you very much.

Solution

Sure. It doesn't have the cooling or power delivery potential of the strix. But at stock clocks for your stated purposes the armor should be just fine for you.

Well the only reason to wait for turing is if you were going to get a turing card, prices of the 1080 likely will not drop significantly when turing releases. Prices of the last generation nvidia cards rarely drop all that much right after release of a new generation.

The strix certainly has the better cooler and VRM, the msi Armour is one of MSI's lower end models. Regardless both should perform nearly the same and last quite a while.

The cryptocurrency market recently took a big hit. Many GPU's prices are near MSRP again, you can get a 1080 for around $560.

I'm just saying prices aren't gaurunteed to stay low or become lower. It's not something I would count on.
