Hey so I am a little perplexed at the problem my computer has been having...
I built the computer back in 2012 and it has been humming along just fine since. A few days ago I was working on my computer like normal and then decided it was time for bed. I sent the computer to sleep and did so myself. I woke up the next day surprised to see the case still lit up so I assumed that I actually forgot to put it to sleep. I went to go turn it on but nothing was displaying on monitor and the keyboard was not lit. I powered it off and then powered on, when it started up there was no display and the keyboard still did not light up. After doing some perusing on this lovely site I decided to get a can of air and clean it out and re seat the ram. After powering on again no dice. I took out one stick of ram and then started up and glorious day the screen said that it detected a change in memory do I want to continue. I powered off and installed the other stick to see if that was indeed the problem. After booting up everything came on and the computer screen was working perfectly. The keyboard was fully lit it seems my troubles have passed, but all good things must come to an end. I used the computer for a few hours played some games and everything was working flawlessly, I decided to hit the sack and did a shut down instead of sleep hoping that in someway would preserve the glorious achievement a little dust can dished out. To my dismay the computer was still lit when I awoke and the problems persisted. Now when I re seat unfortunately the pc will not come back to life. However once when I left it on for awhile I heard the of familiar sound of the windows starting on the speakers. So this leaves me with one obvious little question... WHY THE *****!?

So far my assumtion are as follows:
1) Cant be PSU, the computer has power keyboard lights up all fans are running (gpu, cpu, case), I heard the windows start up jingle but didn't have display.
2) It is the PSU, the computer had issues lighting up the keyboard previously.
3) Can't be motherboard everything lights up and makes a nice hum, the windows jingle
4) Can't be gpu the system stated once and I was running games on it, the fans run
5) It is the gpu, I heard the windows logo with no display
6) maybe motherbaord?
7) Make no assumptions, the windows jingle was a fluke

I have:
MSI 970A-G43 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

It could be a tough to read HDD or USB stick connected to your motherboard that making the PC hang, happens to my system once in awhile mostly because using hybrid mode sleep and testing at times HDDs with issues or after long gaming sessions, can't put my finger on the real issue but it happens thankfully it's a rare occurrence.

have you tried a new monitor on the pc..your backlight on the monitor may have failed. (use a flashlight to see if you see windows). with the newer efi mb they can lock up and wont shut down or reset. take power off the pc let the mb drain of power and then use the cmos jumper to clear the cmos. if your mb has two video slots try a test video card in each slot.

I also have tried a projector connected to it through the hdmi.

see if someone has a test video card. with older rig if your hearing windows start up sound your video card may have failed.
on an older pc if not the video card right now it can be power suppply has bad part not letting the gpu power on or there bad vrm or caps on the mb.

Okay so i eneded up buying a motherboard gpu and power supply have tried switching all and still no dice. When i switched motherboard the computer starts up but only with on board graphics. The bios is set to check pcie first so idk why it wont boot up. But if the gpu is in the pcie slot wether it has a power cable or not the computer wont boot up it, all the fans and lights come on but the keyboard doesnt light up. When no gpu and on board graphics are connected the keyboard lights up and computer has display. The other day when i kept power cycling eventually it decided to work through the new motherboard with the new power supply. I switched back to old power supply and it still started up. I then mounted everything back on my old motherboard and used all the original components and it started up. But the next day it went back to no display so i have no idea what could be possibly be going on. Litterally the only component i havent trued changing is the cpu but it works everytime when the in board graphics vga are plugged in. Btw i am using an hdmi to dvi for the 1060 and a vga to dvi-i for the other graphics card.

- Would you please verify your card has straight connection from Power supply populating all it's PCIe Pin connectors, if more than one insure each 6 or 8 pin is powered by a different PCie power cable coming straight from the power supply ( not through an adapter and not located on the same PCIe cable)
- If possible attach your monitor with a straight HDMI or DVI cable adapted to your card port with no adapter, test with a spare monitor if needed.
- When PC starts do you see a Post on your screen before screen goes blank? in that case you can access Bios by hitting dedicated shortcut key specific to your motherboard.

I have indeed been powering both graphics cards with the correct 6 or 8 pin connector discrete from any other adapter. I also tried the 8 pin to two 6 pin adapter for the 1060 but same results. Black screen no keyboard lit. I have tried two different monitors and a projector with hdmi vga and dvi. And no there is no initial flicker it just stays dead (monitor) the rest of the computer fans start running but keyboard stays off too. When directly connected to integrated graphics with you removed it starts up fine. So I can access the bios through that, but I have tried disabling the integrated graphics with no help.

I just double checked you r motherboard MSI 970A-G43 AM3+ and it doesn't have an integrated graphic option, neither your CPU Vishera FX 6300 could you please elaborate on which graphic you are using? are you having both cards mounted on the motherboard at the same time, in this case you need to switch graphic output in the Bios from one card to the other.

The integrated graphics are on the other motherboard I am using. Since I thought the problem was with the motherboard I got a gigabyte 78lmt. That has integrated graphics.

This board does not have a primary display switch in the bios, basically to switch displays from the integrated to the PCIe attached discrete Graphic card all you have to do is completely power off the computer, switching monitor display cable to graphic card (1060) then boot computer, repeat if needed after powering down PC and disconnecting wall power source.

Yea I have tried that, but when I try to boot from graphics card the screen stays black and the keyboard doesn’t light up, indicating that computer is not even going to bios / actually starting up.
