I wouldn't risk it, HP (or any other prebuilt systems) usually have a PSU that's just enough for the system to run, adding in a GPU put's more strain on the PSU and could cause damage to the GPU so it's not really worth it.

A founders edition 1050 is a 300w PSU minimum, an overclocked one is bound to pull more power. I have a 220w PSU from an HP system that has been running strong for almost 9 years with added components, I added a GPU which is now overclocked.

Some you can, I added a GT 1030 into my dad's HP (X4 850/8gb DDR3/300W PSU) and it runs quite well, also picked a version that was passively cooled as it runs cool and didn't want anymore power consumption then needed to run.

I have an overclocked Radeon HD 5450 in my old dual core HP with a 220w PSU. Since that the GPU has been moved to my newer I3 PC, it has an I3 3220 2 HDD's and that same GPU overclocked as far as AMD overdrive will let me on a 220w PSU.

So are you saying the OP would be ok with a 1050 OC & 250W PSU?
For me anything "generic" under 300W shouldn't have a dedicated aftermarket GPU which may be overly cautious but I've destroyed a few GPU's in my youth with under powered PSU's.

No, not at all. I said that for a proof on concept, but that 1050 needs at least a good, quality 300w PSU, the base 1050 needs at least a 300w PSU. I would recommend the OP get a 450w from a brand like EVGA or Thermaltake.

If your talking about the Core i3 8100, that's LGA 1151, and that has nothing to do with what video card you can run. Only thing that matters is that you have sufficient power, a 16x slot, and enough CPU lanes to support it, which is only an issue if your using NVME or other PCI-E devices, or your CPU is soo freaken old it doesn't have PCI-E lanes at all, but a CPU that old won't be able to run a PCI-E device an you'll need a GPU with the older PCI bus.

^ no I'm talking about the hp elite 8100, it's socket 1156.
Its last bios update was 2012 , it also has a proprietary 6 pin power connector & only supports 35w through the pci express slot.
Ergo - I don't think it will run a 1050 full stop due to bios incompatibility.

Yes, that is a good point. This is why I don't like to upgrade prebuilts unless they are built using consumer parts with no limitations like those mentioned above.
