HDD running at 100% and crashing explorer.exe when accessed

Hi guys,

Recently I got a new chassis and after having moved all my components across one of my hard drives (not the drive running Windows) was constantly running at 100% without reading or writing any data. When I try to access the drive it freezes Windows explorer, which later crashes. I may have made the rookie error of putting a small magnet near the drive during the process of moving it across (I didn't know it was a magnet at the time lol) so I'm not sure if there is any chance of ever getting the drive running normally again? I don't mind losing the data, but I can't exactly afford to buy a new hard drive at the moment.

It's a Hitachi HHD. If any other information of my system or the drive is necessary I'll give what I can.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Solution
go to admin tools, computer mngmt (right click, run as admin), storage, drive mngmt, and see if you can delete partitions, recreate them/reformat.....(be sure you do the correct drive...!)

Magnets can wreak havoc, let us hope that helps....

That seems to be doing something. It turns out that the drive was of type RAW (not really sure what that means but I managed to retrieve the data I was most worried about losing from it which was a pleasant surprise.) Unfortunately the format has been running since you sent that and it's only on 53% now, so I think there might be issues in that regard. Although hopefully not.

Thanks for your assistance either way!
