Having a problem now, dhcp lease keeps expiring around the same time at night. How do I prevent this so I don't have to keep resetting my modem? Modem is ubee ddw36c and my router is a netgear N300 WNR2000v2. Do I have to setup a static IP address? If so, where do I set one up? By the way I called my ISP already but they said there wasn't any issues with their hardware rather they said my router was faulty. I believe this is false since many people have had the same issue.

So looking at your stuff a little closer it appears the device you call a modem is actually a modem/router. So if it is dchp issues it could be in either device.

I have not used that cable modem before but most have logs that tell you if your connection goes down or gets errors. Mine even tells me when it renews the dhcp lease.

Sorry for not including this, also I'm just trying to setup a static IP since I heard that would fix the issue, I just don't know how to.

If it is on the WAN side of your router then there is little you can do. The ISP DHCP server is in control and send out the how long the lease is valid.

Like the above post mentions at about 1/2 the time your router will send a special message to the dhcp server at the ISP and ask if it may extend the lease. It checks/asks a couple more times before the lease expires. If it gets a response it just extends the lease otherwise it expires at the end.

If this is on your end devices on the LAN you can set the DHCP lease time to whatever you like in your router settings.

My issue is that my connection keeps going off at night, I just wanted to set up a static IP as I heard that would fix the issue. I guess I did assume it was a DHCP problem though.
