Obtaining dns server not working

So I've had a netgear router for awhile and it work perfectly up until now, I wake up today to find no internet access notification , this is for both a Ethernet connect and wifi connection.
I check router settings and obtain DNA sever automatically is checked, but it doesn't show any numbers , what's going kn

If the router has the DNS checked for automatic, then it will use whatever your ISP provides in a DHCP response. If that is unacceptable, then change the DNS to manual and use Google DNS or other well known DNS service.

I tried changing it to 8.8.8.8 as well and it still showed no internet access.. I'm stumped on this

Your router may have an option to ping from within the user interface. Attempt to ping 8.8.8.8 from the user interface. If that fails, then there is a problem on the WAN side of the router and you should probably contact your ISP.

Depending on what caused the outage, sometimes the routers dont pick up when the service is restored; a full shut down and reboot of the router is required.

For future reference, if googledns and opendns dont work, either your internet service is down, or the end of the world happened while you werent paying attention.

I use opendns, it is so much faster than my ISP supplied dns server.
