Can't connect my Xbox one controller to my xaiomi mi a1

I have a xaiomi mi a1 and want to use my Xbox one controller to play games with. I have an other cable, a USB adapter ( the otg is micro ) and a micro USB cable. I plug them all up like the tutorials say to and the controller just flashes and doesn't connect. Any help?

Xiaomi default to charging only on the USB cable, you need to pull down the menu from the top of the phones home page and look for the USB option button.

Having said that, recent OS updates have buggered up all my Xiaomi phones; it took a week of effort to get my PC to recognise them again, and I still havent managed to get OTG working (3 different Note models).

OTG has vanished from the USB options list.
