An Intel build with an i5-8400 would do well too and cost less. I went with Ryzen due to streaming and video editing making the extra threads beneficial. As for the motherboard. You can save money with a good B350 motherboard. Such as the ASUS Strix B350-F or Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming 3. But if you don't get one which already has an updated BIOS. You'll have to wait for a boot kit from AMD to update it. I went with an X470 board since it already will support the Ryzen 5 2600.

Solution
if your pc is working fine now but is slow. i would hold off wait for the newer cpu from intel and amd that are dropping latter in the year/q1 of next year. it also may help your build funds if the price of ram comes down. china and other are not looking at the ram vendors for price fixing.
